Anathema (front). Another of my ex's character, but one I came up with. I was experimenting with using dopplegangers as PCs, and this was a first attempt. Basically, she played it as a mage, but Annie was essentially dual classed as a Psionicist. It mostly worked, probably needed more tweaking, though. I had a whole campaign geared around dopplegangers as major players in the world, but we never got as far as I would've liked.
Oh, the big reveal at the end was....hmmm. Nevermind. I might still use that some day. :)

Sir Clement (front). This is the only page I have for Clement, another of Joe's legends. The proudest moment in his history was when Lillith (see elsewhere in the album) viciously killed one of her minions whom Clement had cast Charm on and ordered to fight his compatriots.
As that Charm had been bestowed by Thor, I decided Thor would consider that minion was acting as his agent at the time. As a result, Clement woke the next morning (after a night of fitful dreams in direct communication with his god) with 18/00 Strength, 18 Constitution, 18 Dexterity and his hammer having been imbued with some serious magical power (I think I called it "+5 vs. Lillith").
In the final battle, they failed to defeat Lillith, but she did take a serious beating from Clement and barely made it out alive!

Gerg (front). Being low on muscle when we started the campaign (Luckfudge was it, as I recall), I decided the team needed a henchman. And, as the Complete Book of Humanoids had just come out, I went with half-ogre as the best choice.
Gerg was a loyal friend, and quick to respond when told "Gerg! Knock that down!". Be it door or goblin army, few things could stand in front of Gerg for very long.
Unfortunately, as the party's cannon fodder, he often was asked to do things that were outside even his powerful abilities. As a result, Gerg spent a lot of time inside the Pouch of Holding (see elsewhere in this album). For those who don't get the joke: living matter can't be placed inside a Bag of Holding.
Gerg-2Gerg (back). Yes. Gerg had a pet songbird named Tweet and he wrote poetry. If you have an issue with that, I suggest you take it up with him. I recommend being WELL outside the reach of that enormous club of his...

Lillith (front). To this day, if you say the word "Lillith" to my cousin Joe...he WILL cry a little. She was the party's nemesis for a couple of years. Knowing I'd gotten myself into a situation where I had a powerful party, I often had to ramp up the kill factor to 11 just to keep them entertained. I eventually decided I needed a character powerful enough to hold the whole party at bay by herself.
Lillith.
Daughter of the union of a drow arch-mage and a succubus, Lillith has slaughtered her way through the world in service to Lolth for hundreds of years. As a result, she was given sainthood status by her goddess as a reward (See old issues of the Dragon Magazine for deets on creating saints. It's a very old article.) She's old, she's crafty, she's powerful and I played her with as much evil as I could muster. And, frankly, there were many times I had to fudge a lot of rolls behind the screen in order for the party to survive.
When last she was seen, she had taken the throne at the end of the module "The Endless Stairs" and had been devoured by the magic eater. But, Lillith has been seen to die many times in the past. Future players...be warned! :)
Lillith-2Lillith (back). Lillith's innate magical abilities. These are before we start to throw in her spell casting ability as an 18th level cleric/magic-user. Of special note on this sheet: the saint ability "can cast spells with but a single word".

The best part of being the DM is getting to play characters like ol' Lillith here... :)

Sir Luckfudge Black (front). Yes, you read that right, his name was Luckfudge. As I recall, his name came about when my cousin Joe was rolling the character up. He had rolled, I think, a 3 for one of his abilities and I told him he could re-roll. One of them made the comment "Boy, it's lucky he let that roll be fudged!" From there, somehow, his name appeared.
Luckfudge was a Paladin, with a capital "P". My cousin knew I took his playing that class very seriously and would brook no wavering from the paladin's knightly code. There would be no "hey, let's have the paladin look over there while we pull this orc's tongue out" going on in my games, and I rarely had to tell Joe his character was on the verge of doing something he shouldn't.
I've only played with a couple of paladins in any campaign, and Joe was the only one who did it up right. Luckfudge was honest, forthright, brave and honorable. Joe always got a lot of grief for how he played him, but if the party ever had to split up...everyone ALWAYS wanted to be in the group with the paladin!

Sir Luckfudge Black (back). As a paladin, Luckfudge was limited in what items he could possess. I had borrowed an element from the campaign I played in high school which revolved around knights who wore armor based on the metallic dragons. It only made sense that a Paladin of Bahamut should be the one who got the platinum armor, and since I knew it would be going to Luckfudge it had to be full plate.

Muntz (front). was a modification of an NPC out of an adventure from an old Dungeon magazine. For those looking to find it, the Muntz character was an old man having issues with singing mushrooms, and the old boat he fished in every day was actually a mimic that had decided it had the life. Every day, the man would catch some fish, put 'em in the boat, and it would get fed. Yes, it sounds weird, but yes, it was a good adventure!
Anyway, I heavily bastardized that adventure for the campaign and the old man turned into Muntz. However, he was now a Tinker Gnome (from Dragonlance) with a severe mental defect: all of his inventions actually worked and rarely blew up. He had been a crew member on a Spelljammer that had crashed in the swamp and decided to stay there since he was such an outcast from his own people. The party encountered him, wackiness ensued, and he became a party member.
Oh, and I kept the mimic. I figured a creature that could mimic inanimate objects was the PERFECT pet for a Tinker Gnome. Muntz eventually taught the mimic how to duplicate some of his inventions so he could lighten his load.

My favorite one was the "SCUBA gear". It was a Bag of Holding that was empty except for a tube and a sealed helmet inside. You took out the helmet and put it over your head. The tube connected to the helmet and the other end went into the bag...which was a large space in a small bag that was just full of air. Cool, right?

One could make the argument that this isn't technically a character, but it sure played a big part in the campaign and, in a way, took on a life of its own. It was a Bag of Holding, but with a very diminutive outer size (About dice bag size. I know this audience understands that measurement.) and practically an infinite interior. I handed it out because I simply HATE dealing with encumbrance rules!
Everything, including dead PCs and NPCs, ended up in here at one point or another. And, while we didn't have a kitchen sink, there was a magic frying pan that spiced whatever was cooked in it to the cook's exact tastes. :) It eventually became the party's dumping ground for magic items no one wanted. Why no one wanted the Ioun Stones is beyond me...

While there's nothing legendary about this particular incarnation of Ruk (Joe's been playing a character with this name since we were both in high school), I post him to immortalize his name. And, where did the name come from? I wrote a random word generator on my computer and we picked the first 14 letters that appeared in sequence.

Lady Sarala (front). Oh, and what a front! Lady Sarala, The Naked Lady of Vandris was another character I stole from a module. In the adventure, she was a captured slave the PCs free, but in the midst of the final, big battle she reveals she's a were-tiger!
As my ex-wife Melissa was short a character at the time, she took over Sarala. Sarala was a monk of one of the goddesses in my campaign (I think her name was Gau) who was the goddess of temptation, vice and nature. As a result, her order forbid her from wearing any clothing.
I was in my late teens. What do you expect?
Sarala-2Lady Sarala (back). And, here we see how we worked around her not wearing clothes. As she was a member of the Order of the Dragon, she needed some dragon "armor" and she got it in the form of gloves and bracers.

Of primary note was her Robe of Scintillating Colors which literally became the centerpiece of large battle strategies for the group. She would stand in the middle with the rest of the party arranged around her in a circle facing out. With the Robe, she kept enough monsters dazzled while the others chopped away at those still putting up a fight.

Its trickster nature worked well with Marc' humor and the day was often saved by the careful use of a "joke" attack on some foe that was expecting an all-out battle. That is, of course, when Sinec could convince Finnagan to do as asked! "Oh, god, she's fighting with her sword again" was not an uncommon phrase at the table.
